Doug Burton, Minister of Music and Education
doug@fbcburnet.org
Doug grew up in Henderson, Texas. After graduating from Henderson High School, he went to Baylor University where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Pedagogy. Then he continued his education at West Texas State University receiving a Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting. It was at WTSU (now West Texas A&M) that Doug met the love of his life, Linda. “My ministry would not be what it is today without the whole-hearted support of my wonderful wife. She has served as church secretary, played the piano, led children’s classes. But most of all she has been an encourager and my best friend. I thank God for her.” After serving in a church full time, the Burtons soon realized that seminary needed to be in the future…so they loaded up the truck and moved to Fort Worth! Doug earned a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Doug and Linda have one son, Christopher, who is now working toward a Master of Music Degree in Music Composition. Linda and Chris have always been an integral part of Doug’s ministry. Doug joined our staff in June of 2008. Prior to coming to FBC Burnet, Doug had served at FBC Beeville for 10 years. Doug has also served in other churches across Texas and one in Louisiana. Doug describes his calling in this way, “Although music is very important to me, I believe that the title “minister” refers to the total spectrum of the church. It is very important for a minister to “see the big picture”, and be able to relate to and minister to all of the church...not just a small portion.”
Matt Brown, Minister of Youth
matt@fbcburnet.org
Growing up in the heart of Sooner country, Matt attended church each week with his family. In 1991, he graduated from Norman High School and bravely left home to attend school 45 minutes away at Oklahoma Baptist University, receiving a degree in Youth Ministry in 1996. It was not until after graduation from OBU that Matt came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The Lord showed Matt that faith is not about what one brings to God but rather about trusting Jesus for what He has already done. Matt began attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1997, graduating with his Master of Divinity in 2002. He is still a student at Southwestern (yes, he is in the “I’m-in-school-forever” program) as a doctoral student. Matt married his beautiful wife, Aimee, in August 1998 and they have three children, Madeline, Gabriel, and Brant. Matt has been in Burnet since February 2004.
